This past weekend, Hornblower Cruises & Events, along with sister-company Alcatraz Cruises, participated in the annual Muir Woods Earth Day project. As a part of our Respect Our Planet program, 20 employees, family and friends joined a larger group of volunteers on a number of projects at the Muir Woods National Monument.
One group pulled the Ehrharta Erecta, also known as Panic Veldtgrass, an evasive grass originally from South Africa. We pulled clumps of grass, taking care to make sure we got the seeds. The grass takes up valuable ground space and smothers native plants. More than 200 gallons of Ehrharta Erecta were pulled that day. Another group pulled Forget-me-nots, which are also consider invasive. More than 13 large garbage bags of Forget-me-nots were pulled.
In all, more than 200 volunteers completed a number of projects in Muir Woods this weekend, helping to preserve and restore the habitat to its natural state so everyone can enjoy it.
Thank you to all our volunteers:
Galen (who was also the master organizer!), Dre, Scott, Lindsey, Margaret, Lorelei, Dave, Rosalyn, Lee, Michael, Brie, Allie, Larisa, Christina, Nick, Jim, Yukiko, Sarah, Brooke, & Derek
